P H I L O T E S ancient coin necklace
This ancient coin pendant necklace features the pressed relief of a Ancient Greek coin minted around 280BC. It is named after Philotes the Greek goddess of friendship and affection and it features two faces which were thought to represent the rising and setting of the sun and the meeting of two branches of a river, it’s also thought that they are the Dioscuri twins who later became known as the constellation Gemini. To me this coin brought to mind two friends lying next to each other in the park, laughing together and sharing secrets that only friends can share!
It is intentionally created to feature the melted molten droplets created as the hot coin is pressed in to the wax, the reverse has a beautiful organic texture and pattern almost like a touchstone and you will see marks left by the makers tools and hands. It is then cast in molten brass or silver using the lost wax casting process. Each pendant is unique and hand made due to the making process and will vary slightly to the pictures here.
Each pendant is supplied with a 18 inch curb chain in either 14K gold Filled, sterling silver or 9ct gold.
Available in Brass, Eco Sterling Silver and recycled 9ct Gold.
(For gold prices please email takentwicejewellery@gmail.com for a consultation)
Each eco sterling silver and 9ct gold pendant comes with a full hand struck UK hallmark from the London Assay Office.
SIZE
The pendant measures approximately 2 cm in diameter, although it is not a perfect circle and approximately 0.5 mm at its thickest point. These measurements exclude the attached jump ring.
