About Taken Twice
Hi, I’m Laurie and the person behind Taken Twice. I have always had a fascination with collecting treasures like shells and sea glass, pebbles and bits of wood, either along the beach while on holiday or walking in the countryside. Or indeed on the walk up the road to the bus if I spot a particularly colourful autumn leaf! Apart from being pretty objects I like to imagine the journeys they have been on when they were created and how the world around them has changed. I studied Fine Art, eventually specialising in sculpture, but after graduating my creative path took a slight sideline. Happily however I have found my way back to the creativity that I love and I have been creating hand made jewellery in my little studio in Derbyshire for nearly 4 years.
I love jewellery and I find the way humanity have been creating and wearing it since the dawn of time fascinating. I have always been enthralled with the past and as a child I dreamed of being an Archaeologist and exploring the ancient civilizations of the Maya’s, Aztec’s, Egyptians and Romans until I realised you need to be quite an academic for this field of work so it was the Art path for me instead.
My childhood dreams have not gone unheeded though and I began creating jewellery, inspired by the people of the past and the earthy worlds and landscapes they have been hiding in all this time. My aim is to create your favorite go-tojewellery pieces that can be relied upon again and again, when you have a special occasion where you want to feel a little more ‘sparkly’ or an interview where you need a boost of confidence for or simply just to make your day a little brighter, I want to be the one who creates those little totems of glamour for you - to help brighten your day, as much as making them brightens mine.
